Civil War Clothing

Picture
Usually, a Civil War soldier that was part of the Union wore an uniform made of wool. They also carried a bag called a knapsack for extra supplies. The most colorful uniforms were bright red and worn by the Zouaves. Confederate soldiers typically traveled much lighter. Confederate Civil War clothing was made of cotton, wool and a type of jean cloth. This was because the Northern states had all the manufacturing plants that could produce better clothing.
