In 1865 Captain Henrich Wirz was exicuted by being hanged. He was a docter,also a Swiss imagrant, that had controlled the Confederacy's Camp Sumter and the Andersonville prison camp during the American Civil War. He was the only person to be tried and convicted for war crimes during the war.
